All neighbors: If you have extra plastic grocery or produce bags, please stuff those into the MuttMitt dispensers in the parks for others to use.

Fall Clean-Up

It's a bit of a short notice, but our Fall Clean-Up is set for October 30th (that's just 7 days from today). This is a Clean Green (grass clippings, leaves, yard waste) only affair.
If you did not get your notice in the mail, here's all you need to know. -Tim

*** PLEASE NOTE*** The date printed on the Post Card for the Friends of CDA Park Meeting is incorrect. The correct date is TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18.
Sorry for the confusion stemming from this printing error.

IMPORTANT

OK... Here's the deal. If you are parking on the "wrong side of the street", or too close to a Yield Sign in the neighborhood, you will be ticketed. Parking Enforcement is issuing tickets for these infractions. They have been on the books for years, but not enforced as vigorously as today. Also if your tabs are expired, you will be cited, or towed, depending on how long since the last renewal. You have been warned!  - Tim

Friday, September 26, 2014

Fall is officially here but put down that rake, leave the leaves, and join us for the October General Meeting of your Neighborhood Council. We meet on Wednesday, October 1st, at 6:30 pm in the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.
What a great excuse to use for not getting that yard cleaned up!

Your Neighborhood Council also wants to remind you that Elections for Council Officers is just a few months away.
If you want to give something back to your neighborhood, consider a position on the Executive Committee.

Neighborhood Reader Board

The new Neighborhood Reader Board was installed on the west side of the Elk Public House this morning. It was a long time coming, but well worth the wait.
Check it out for neighborhood news, events, and meeting information.
A big "thank you" goes out to Marshall Powell and his partners at the Elk Public House for providing a prime location!
Another shout of thanks goes to Dave Bender, who donated his time and skill in getting this thing securely mounted to the building! (it wasn't easy)

-Tim

Sounds like a full agenda, but we'll have you outa there by 8pm - guaranteed!

We start at 6:30 this Wednesday evening at the NW Museum of Arts and Culture, downstairs in the Gilkey Community Room.

We have a new restaurant in the neighborhood!

Due to open sometime next week, the Hacienda Las Flores plans to open at the location of the long closed Sunset Junction.
I spoke to the owner Jorge this evening, and though he has a bunch of work to be done before he can open the doors, he's confidant that he'll get it done by Wednesday.

Featuring family recipes from Mexico City, Jorge and Adriana are excited to share their menu with you.

You may have already sampled their food, as they have offered the same menu at their 5th and Freya location for several years.
Moving to our neighborhood is a big plus for Jorge and the Browne's Addition Neighborhood.

Bienvenido!

Meet and talk with Dr. Bob Scarfo, the contracted architect/community planner, and meet some of your neighbors at the same time.

Be on the lookout!
Someone has stolen Mrs. Browne's Head!
You heard me right.
The statue of Mrs. JJ Browne and Daughter, located at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Riverside Avenue has been vandalized.
This statue was crafted by Sister Paula Turnbull (garbage eating goat fame), and erected in 2005.
If you saw something, or know about this act of vandalism, contact Crime Check at 456-2233

5K Color Run

I've had some questions about the "Tow Away" signs going up in the neighborhood.
There is a 5k marathon going through the neighborhood on Sunday.
STA has routed the buses around the neighborhood as they did during Elkfest. The route of the 5k Color Run follows closely to what we had during the Race For A Cure  a few months ago. Contact STA for the temporary bus schedules for Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon. (7:30am-2:30pm ) For more information on the Color Run....

The weather will be cooler, and I'm sure that you will be dancing the Horah before you even realize it.
It starts at 6pm at the gazebo, and as always we are Family and Pet friendly.

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Alert!
There have been reports of car prowling incidents in our neighborhood recently, specifically along 1st Avenue.
Please be prudent in LOCKING your vehicle, and SECURING (out of sight) those items that may be tempting a prowler.
With the warmer weather and later sunsets, these prowlers may find their way to your vehicle.
Don't give them the chance to make you a victim!

Our neighborhood Spring Clean-Up was a great success.
There was some disturbing news brought to our attention by the volunteers however.
The most common piece of trash/debris found on our streets and in our park was Cigarette butts

Did you know that....

Cigarette butts are the most commonly discarded piece of waste worldwide. It is estimated that 1.69 BILLION pounds of butts wind up as toxic trash each year, creating an enormous environmental, health, and economic burden.
Contrary to popular belief, cigarette butts are NOT biodegradable! Cigarette butt waste is a huge environmental issue, with a global impact -- it is both unsightly and unhealthy.

If you are a smoker, take note. If you know someone who is a smoker, pass this along.

Saturday, May 3, 2014
