OK, so the Snow Plows hit the neighborhood today on the North/South streets.
Sadly, 19 cars were towed by the City of Spokane.
I think that they are serious this year.
You East/West folks have been warned, as they will be working your streets tomorrow.
Get those cars off the street before 9AM.
Don't give the City of Spokane your money, or your car!

Leaf Pickup scheduled for Browne's Addition
Leaf Pickup scheduled for Browne's Addition
Cars need to be off the street Dec. 15-16
Contact: Julie Happy, 509.625.7773, jhappy@spokanecity.org
Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 12:43 p.m.
The City of Spokane continues its regularly scheduled leaf pickup in the Browne’s Addition neighborhood.
Leaf pickup occurs in Browne’s Addition for two days beginning 9 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15 through Wednesday, Dec. 16. Cars must be moved off of the street. Cars not moved will be towed as needed.
Tuesday’s leaf pick up route will be the north/south streets between the area south of Riverside Avenue and north of 2nd Avenue/Sunset Boulevard, which includes the area west of Maple Street to east of Coeur D’Alene Street.
Wednesday’s leaf pickup schedule will be the east/west streets between the area south of Riverside Avenue to north of 2nd Avenue/Sunset Boulevard, which includes the area west of Maple Street and east of Coeur d’Alene Street.
In the event of snow, leaf pick up will stop and then continue when weather allows.
Being aware of the leaf pickup schedule is key to a successful pickup experience. Knowing when crews are in your area and removing vehicles from the streets ensures your neighborhood is cleared of as many leaves as possible.

Neighborhood Notification Ordinance
With the passage of the Neighborhood Notification
Ordinance, neighborhoods have had questions about the notifications
they have received including how to respond. The Office of Neighborhood
Services has organized a training with the Building
& Developer Services Department to help neighborhood councils
navigate the notifications regarding development within their
neighborhood. This training will teach your neighborhood what notices
you will be receiving, the process and how you can be engaged
in the application review and decision making process.
It is strongly encouraged that all neighborhood councils attend this training!
Please pass this along to your neighborhood council membership. Attached is a flyer to share.
Date: Monday, December 28th, 2015
Time: 5:45pm
Location: West Central Community Center
Please RSVP to jcaro@spokanecity.org or 625-6733.

Hi! Here are some
opportunities for citizens to give public comment and/or interact with
Spokane Police Department, as well as upcoming training for civilians.
Public Meeting
The Police Advisory Committee (PAC) is holding their quarterly public meeting on Thursday,
September 17 at 5:30 pm at East Central Community Center. PAC
will hold their regular meeting but it is open to the public and guests
can ask questions and give input. Flyer attached.
Training Opportunity
Enhancing the
Survival Mindset (ESM) is a women’s self-defense class, which offers
participants hands-on self-defense and safety awareness training by
Spokane Police officers. ESM Level 1 will be held
October 1st, from 6 - 10 pm.
The ESM Level 1
course offers participants the opportunity to learn the basics of
self-defense. The course consists of a classroom portion where
participants will receive information on crime statistics, situational
awareness, and information on enhancing their survival mindset.
Hands-on training introduces participants to defensive tactics
techniques and places participants into realistic threat scenarios. A
participant's survival mindset will determine the outcome of
these scenarios. Attendees must be at least middle school aged (allowed
when accompanied by a guardian) or older to participate. There is a $35
charge to cover the costs associated with the class. Scholarships are
available for those who need financial assistance.
Enhancing the
Mindset Level 2 is the next step in the reinforcement and development of
the survival mindset. Participants are exposed to approximately six new
threat scenarios that will enhance your schemas
for real life survival. Attendees must be at least middle school aged
(allowed when accompanied by a guardian) and older to participate and
must have completed Level One. There is a $35 charge to cover the costs
associated with the class. ESM Level 2 will
be held on October 22nd, from 6 - 10 p.m.
To register and for more information about the classes, go to
https://my.spokanecity.org/police/citizen/training/ or call the SPD Academy at 509-742-8100.

The 2015 Summer Concert Series has come to an end, and want to thank everyone who came out to enjoy this year's entertainment.
I had the pleasure of hosting the entire nine weeks. I met, and chatted, with just about all of you. I played with your kiddos, petted your dogs, and generally had a great time. I also thank you all for feeding the Lavender Bucket when it came around. You were very generous.
Thanks also to the talented lineup of musicians. Without them, I would have had a lot of time to fill. (that would not have been a good thing)
And don't forget our sponsors. Without them, this would never have been a success.
We look forward to seeing you next July, when we kick-off the 20th season of the Browne's Addition Summer Concert Series!

Concert Series, Week Nine, FINAL WEEK
This week we have one of those "familiar faces" that I spoke about in week one. SIDETRACK is back!
From Country Swing, mixed with a taste of good ole' Rock and Roll. Add a tad of Bluegrass and Rockabilly... these guys are the prefect group to close out our 2015 season.
The Friends of CDA Park will be on hand with Lemonade, T-Shirts, and Bandannas for your favorite four-legged friend.
Be there, at the Coeur d'Alene Park, 6 pm this Thursday evening (August 27)
Bring your pet because, as always, we are a Family and Pet friendly event.
Yep, you still have one more week to put up with me, because we couldn't find another host! - Tim

Folks have been driving by the construction site on 3rd Avenue and Coeur d'Alene Street, and asking "what's going in there?"
Well, it is a 21 unit, 3 story apartment building being developed by the property owners, Jason and Jessica Kettrick.
This is an artist's conceptual drawing of the proposed building, as seen from Coeur d'Alene Street.

Correction...
The name of the Historic Officer for the the City of Spokane, addressing our General Meeting in June was posted in error.
Her name is Megan Duvall, and not Mary Duvall.
This was my error and I apologize for any confusion.
Just chalk it up to a "senior moment" on my part.

It's hard to believe that it's June already.
Please join your neighbors on June 3, 2015 at 6:30 pm, downstairs at the MAC for the General Meeting of your Neighborhood Council.
You can expect updates from all of the various sub-committees and project coordinators, as well as information regarding Form Based Code and Historic Preservation from Mary Duvall, Historic Officer for the City of Spokane.
Here's a look at the agenda.
I hope to see you there. I'll save you a seat!

Browne's Addition welcomes ArtFest!
For those of you who are new to the neighborhood, ArtFest is our premier event of the year.
Expect the streets to be packed with auto and foot traffic, so drive with care.
Off street parking will be at a premium, and there will some changes to the STA Bus Routes through the neighborhood.
Be sure to remove those trash bins from the street as soon as they are emptied, as they take up valuable parking space.
Have fun, and enjoy Artfest 2015.

Artfest is just around the corner, and the Friends of Coeur d'Alene Park
want to remind you that they will have their Lemonade Stand at the Patsy
Clark Mansion again this year. Starting on Friday, May 29, and ending
on Sunday May 31.
Stop by and learn about the work that this group is doing to preserve and restore our neighborhood park.
T-Shirts and other park related items will be for sale along with some "surprises".
If you have never toured the Patsy Clark Mansion, this will be your best chance to get a look behind those front doors.
15 min tours with stories of the neighborhood of the Patsy Clark Mansion will be offered on Saturday and Sunday during the weekend. The hours of tours are 11-5 Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday. A $5 donation is requested.

Hello Browne's Addition neighbors,
Happily the traffic circle at the corner of Pacific and Canon is fully planted for the season.
We
will need a little help with watering so if you love to hang out at
this focal point of Browne's Addition and you want to help with
occasional watering, let me know
Also all of the Coeur d'Alene Park planters are also planted for the season.
But
5 of the 7 planters in the park need someone to help care for them in
what is likely to be a really long hot and windy summer.
I am asking for folks to "adopt a planter".
What this means, most importantly, is watering on weekends and checking on them once in a while during the week.
Our
park attendant this year is doing a yeoman's job of keeping them
watered during the week but it's a big park for one person and planters
get missed.
On Fridays he leaves at 2:00 PM and doesn't return until Monday
There is never anyone there on the weekend to water.
We have good and easy access to water in the park so all you really need is a watering can or bucket.
If
you care to you can weed a little, dead head a little, mutter sweet
nothings to the plants a little. Or just use the time to enjoy our
precious park.
Please email me if you want to talk about the "how to" of it.
Thanks very much.
